The Initial Meeting
DAVE = Directory of Active Vendors Engine was a tool that PMSI needed to assist their associates in making better decisions in vendor selection.

Their current issue resolved around the fact that there was no way for them to readily select the most appropriate and preferred provider for their patients. Associates would often pick providers based on personal relationships rather than being based on the terms of the contact.

DAVE allows associates to search for vendors based on zip code radius, and automatically filters preferred vendors to the top, and utilizes a color coded system to assist associates in making the right selection. We also built a custom reporting tool that allows business managers the ability to evaluate critical data to make sound business decisions.

When we went onsite at PMSI, we realized that it was really important to focus on having DAVE be fun. We talked about it and decided it would be good to have a character. The upper level executives wanted DAVE to be a male character, but the ladies who were going to be using the system said "No Way!" so we came up with the idea of using an animal.

We didn't pick just any animal, we picked a fox because they are clever, just like DAVE. We designed DAVE to be reminiscent of Microsoft Windows to give an air of familiarity, but created color icons and the ability to personalize and manage a profile to give that added element of fun.
